m2Work Hackathon Announcement
Earlier this year, infoDev an innovation and entrepreneurship program in the World Bank and Nokia teamed up to launch the m2Work Challenge, which yielded almost 1000 ideas on how to create jobs that people anywhere can do on their mobile phones.
The next phase is to bring those ideas to life. Several challenge winners are already in talks with national governments, angel investors, and other developers on how to distribute their apps. To help the larger m2Work community turn their ideas into mobile microwork businesses, infoDev and its global partners are organizing the first-ever m2Work Hackathon in 5 regions, 4 mLabs and 1mHub, in September 15-16, 2012.
Various infoDev partners and their local networks will coordinate the hackathons in the following countries: The m2Work Hackathon aims to:- Shape promising m2work ideas into mobile application prototypes;
- Bolster other prototype mobile microwork applications that qualify for pre-incubation support at infoDev’s Mobile Application Labs (mLabs), and
- Increase awareness for the job-creating potential of mobile microwork in developing countries.
We invite developers, entrepreneurial minds and expert in the mobile ecosystem to participate in this global event and help to bring ideas to life. Either teams (max. 5 members) or individuals (able to code) can apply for participation.
Team members and individual developers should get registered on www.m2workhackathon.org web page. Please note, that the preliminary deadline for registration is September the 10th.
Participants from ECA region (Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine), unable to travel to Yerevan (unfortunately InfoDev is not covering the travel expanses of participants), can send the dropbox links to their presentations (max 30 slides) and codes to the following emails: info@mlab.am or mlab@eif.am.
Deadline for the submission is 13:00 Yerevan time, 16 September 2012.
The panel of judges will announce the names and number of projects submitted during the Hackathon and will evaluate these projects. Winners will be announced the next day. Skype conference might be arranged for the applicants who would prefer making live presentations of their prototypes.
In case you happen to be in Armenia, join us at Congress Hotel, Yerevan on 15-16 September.
